2007 Get Rescued.....in Gulfport
Success Stories

Rescues aren't only offered an opportunity to raise the funds needed for the continuing success of their rescue - they are able to showcase many of the dogs available for adoption.
Attendees may see that special pet that will one day bring happiness to their home.

These are just a few dogs that found their way out of rescue
 and into wonderful Forever Homes.

Terri's Gang

Meet Delia and Follie!

Follie is a smart little poodle from Coastal Poodle Rescue! She adopted her new mom Delia on August 25 2007 and moved to Hernando County to be with Delia and new fur sister Itsy!

We thank the Animal and Bird Hospital in Clearwater for their part in bringing Follie to adoptable health!

Let's all wag our tails for Delia and Dr Murphy and staff !!
Lamb Chops, a young Apricot Poodle from Coastal Poodle Rescue, touched the heart of Mary O'Malley, Get Rescued....in Gulfport cofounder and event
sponsor, and now lives with a sister, Lois Lane, another adopted Poodle, in Gulfport.

Mary, a master groomer and owner of Reef Dog Gifts & Grooming, is a longtime supporter of rescue and donates much of her time grooming rescued dogs to prepare them for adoption.

Let's all wag our tail for Mary!!

Chihuahua Rescue and Transport received a call on Christmas Day 2006 - "we have a Chihuahua that we don't want any more"......was the message.  The volunteers of CRT went into action and picked the beautiful 4 year old Chi up immediately.

Get Rescued.....in Gulfport created the happy ending as this little girl was showcased at the event and found her 'forever home'.

This very special Beagle was presented by Florida Beagle Rescue and her future "Mom" walked by and fell in love.

The little Beagle girl was adopted after the festival and later enrolled in the "Puppy Training Class" offered by
Bark & Browse in Gulfport.

Now they are living "happy ever after".

Ramona came from a puppy mill that was raided by Animal Enforcement officers and ended up with the poodle rescue my husband and I work with, Coastal Poodle Rescue, along with 76 other poodles.

Ramona is one of the six mini/toy poodles we have, and she spends her days tormenting the other dogs and dragging sticks and pieces of pine bark mulch in through the dog door.
She also enjoys splashing the water out of her water bowl with her paws for the sheer fun of it, and she never hesitates to dig a hole in the yard when the idea pops into her head. Ramona constantly creates mischief and we
never know what she'll do next, but she is a ton of fun to live with.

Fashion Show helps place Marty

Approximately 6 weeks ago a little black and tan Chihuahua was days from being killed at an animal shelter in Miami.  His crime - no one wanted him!  Kathy Allen from Kickapoo Rescue in Sarasota 'pulled' ( a rescue term meaning notified the shelter her rescue would take the particular dog) this little 6lb boy and placed him in her rescue.  He was then checked for health problems, which were none, neutered, tested for heartworms which was negative and given his shots.  Now he was ready for his forever life of happiness in a new loving home.  Oh yeah, plus he received a name "Marty".
All of us that love Marty are very proud to announce that today our prayers were answered - Marty is now in a wonderful forever home
Marty was presented at the Get Rescued.....in Gulfport Luncheon and Fashion Show on December 1.  We don't know if the red velvet tux that he wore in the show stole the heart of Suzanne Petty-Brown or if it was just his darn good looks.
So many people touch the lives of these homeless animals before that happy ever after can happen.  Kickapoo in reaching out, Pam Kennedy in opening her home and heart to foster until that special family can be found.  For Marty an entire city - the City of Gulfport - was on his side and now Gulfport is his home.
We are now in the planning process for the Get Rescued.....in Gulfport festival and wine tasting on March 1, 2008.  We are so proud of what Get Rescued.....in Gulfport does for animals - we can never know the number of animals that are actually helped through the funds raised by the rescues, but what I am most proud of is the number of animals that are seen at the events and find their forever families.  Animals aren't the only ones that benefit from rescue, people's lives are also enriched.
Thanks to all of you for your support over and over again - I'm sure that Marty would love to give each of you a huge kiss. May the knowledge of making a difference lighten your heart!
Sincerely,
Lynda Shehan

The fabulous LA FEMME LA FASHION was held today at the Sea breeze Manor, and was catered by Elements, a local pet friendly dining establishment. The human fashions were provides by Can Sans, Nice and Brandyville. Mary O Malley of Reef Dog Gifts and Grooming and Brandyville provided the canine fashions.

There was a soft breeze blessing the unusually warm December day, and the impeccably groomed dogs waited there turn, on the patio. They were all so well behaved! Volunteers were ready to change the outfits. The deck was graced with water bowls, and a large selection of home cooked treats. No one seems anxious. No barking. No growling. No fights, People and dogs. It just seemed so normal. The show begins, and the crowd is pleased. The high end of the show was the lead, to be followed by costumes.

Katie and I stood, waiting our turn, and, then we were on!

A star was born. She took to the catwalk and owned it. Prancing, strutting, and working the crowd. She gently touched the extended hands. The crowd was awed, by her beauty and grace. She was introduced by the hostess and founder of Get Rescued in Gulfport, Lynda Shehan, as a rescue of Coastal Poodle. Katie, proudly graced the catwalk a total of three times, remembering her humble foster beginning.

In a back stage interview Ms Katie; she thanked her groomer and fashion designer Pat Wilcox, another CPR volunteer. She continued, with her praise of all the volunteers, the reference checkers, transporters, vets, phone matchers, fundraisers and foster mom. Stating that with out their assistance, she would not be who she is today. Starlet Katie sends a Merry Christmas, to all of her foster brothers and sisters of 2007, Deiter, Terra, Bijou, Harpo, Follie, Melody, Sadie Tatie and Aloha .She reminds them, give a little back! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year !! Katie and Terri
